Latest IDC data shows Apple fall behind in wearables market as Fitbit holds strong

Research firm IDC is today out with its latest data concerning the wearable market. IDC’s data, which reflects the second quarter of 2016, shows an overall increase in the wearables market but smart wearables, described as those that support third-party apps, saw a significant decline.

Apple and Foxconn again said to be planning to manufacture the iPhone in India

Apple has long been working to establish a presence in India, but the country’s strict requirements for retailers and companies have made it a very challenging task for Apple. Whether or not Apple will be legally allowed to open retail locations in contradicted by several reports, but the long-standing roadblock has been that Apple does not have a manufacturing presence in the country.

India has generally required that any company with retail locations manufacture a portion of the goods in the country, though it has been reported in the past that Apple could circumvent that requirement. A new report from The Economic Times, however, says that Apple has approached Foxconn about possibility of making the iPhone in India in the next two to three years.

Following reports that Apple Pay will launch in Japan next year, the service today has expanded to a handful of new banks in the United States. Apple today updated its Apple Pay support document to add over 20 new banks and credit unions in the United States.

It was reported last month that Apple is planning to launch an iPhone model in Japan with support for the widely used FeliCa mobile payment technology. Now, Nikkei Asian Review reports that Apple is planning to partner with Sony to bring the technology to the iPhone next year.

Apple trademarks hint at AirPods case, ‘Iris Image Engine’ & more ahead of iPhone 7 event

Trademark attorney Brian Conroy today published evidence of new trademarks that Apple possibly plans to use for upcoming products. Most notably, the trademark filings reference an “Iris Engine” and “AirPods case,” leading to speculation that Apple could use the branding for new products and features to be unveiled at its event tomorrow.

With 24 hours left until the iPhone 7 keynote, a bunch of Apple trademark filings have now surfaced, as recently discovered by lawyer Brian Conroy. The documents provide some solid hints as to some of the gadgets the Cupertino firm may have been working on and could release at tomorrow’s event.

One of the more peculiar trademark filings is that for “Iris Engine”, potentially hinting at iris scanning capabilities believed to be coming to a future iPhone.

Another one is for “AirPod Case”, which probably denotes a carrying and charging case for AirPods, Apple’s alleged Bragi Dash-style high-end Bluetooth in-ear buds…. Read the rest of this post here
